Chinook Football Facing Shelby Saturday Night

The Chinook Sugarbeeters football program has had time to reflect on its first game of the season, an (18-8) defeat to Culbertson. Head coach Mike Jones said the team was just happy to be out facing competition other than themselves.

“We’re really young and have some guys in some new positions,” Jones said. “It was good to see that after hitting each other for a few weeks, those guys are ready.”

“We went through some stuff and figured out where some guys could play,” Jones continued. “I think it was a really good non-conference game to open up with.”

The Beeters had a bye week and were able to work on getting the new players in the new positions up to speed now having a game under their belt.

“We just got those guys in new positions and worked on responsibilities,” Jones said. “Our guys know any given situation on basic stuff.”

Chinook will be facing off against Shelby on the road, a team that they had success against last season. Still, Coach Jones wants to be sure that the team is prepared to face their opponent

“I think it comes down to what we do every week, which is scout what the team is. We’re different; they’re different,” Jones said. “We just have to make sure that we can succeed in putting these athletes in positions to succeed on the field.”

Chinook and Shelby will kick off at 7pm Saturday night. You can listen to the game on KRYK 101.3-FM
