The MSU-Northern Lights basketball team embark on the 2023-24 season starting on Saturday. The Lights come in ranked No. 3 in the Frontier Conference preseason poll behind Montana Tech and Rocky Mountain College.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Northern coach Shawn Huse and he discussed the roster makeup of his current club, who return five players from the (19-11) team a season ago.
“I think this team has as good of a shot as any we’ve had to be successful,” Huse said. “Anytime you have some new guys that you’re counting on, there’s going to be a learning curve.”
“I think it’s going to take us some time (and) it’s going to be an important growing period for us as a team,” Huse continued.”
The Lights will have seven games on the road to begin the season and Coach Huse had a pretty simple outlook for what he wants to find out about his team.
“Front end of our schedule is loaded,” Huse said. “It’s all on the road. We’re going to be tested (and) pushed and it’s going to be good for this group because we are going to learn a lot.”
The Lights will begin the season with a game down in Butte against Portland Bible College on Saturday.
