The MSU-Northern Basketball Lights opened up their season with a victory, crushing Portland Bible College in emphatic fashion, (96-31). Northern held PBC to 15 points in the first half and 16 in the second in a balanced defensive effort.
Five Lights were in double figures, led by senior guard Zack Martinez with 17 points. Reigning Frontier Conference Freshman and 6th Man of the Year Dae’Kwon Watson had 13 points, while transfer Anthony Mendez also chipped in 13, including tying a team-high with three 3-pointers. The junior forward tandem of Xavier Bailey and JJ Thomas combined for 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
MSU-Northern will fly to Southern California for its next game against La Sierra College on Wednesday, followed by a road trip to Northern California for games against William Jessup University on Friday and Menlo College on Saturday.
