(Great Falls) – Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has reported that as of Sunday evening November 5th, just over 1000 hunters have passed through the check station since Montana’s general rifle season began on October 21st for the North Central Montana region.
FWP reports that the number is slightly higher than the 929 hunters checked at this same point last year, but below the ten-year average of over 1200 hunters.
The total harvest of 144 mule and white-tailed deer was identical to the long-term average, and above the 121 deer checked in last year. Antlered bucks have made up about 63% of the total deer harvest thus far, and the harvest is generally well-distributed throughout the geographic area covered by the check station in Augusta.
