(Havre) – On November 10th a Community Round Dance will be held at the Havre High School Gym. Jessica Kennedy – Stiff Arm the Indian Education Coordinator for Havre Schools and co-host of the event talks about the round dance.
“So, we are organizing a community round dance at Havre high school, and we partnered together to put this on as a community event to invite all of the communities together. It’s kind of an event that has been in the process probably for a couple of years now and so it’s been ongoing, and we’ve finally been able to put this together. So, we’re supper excited it’s going to happen on Friday November 10th at Havre High School Gym it will start at 5 pm and go until at least midnight. We’ll also have a pipe ceremony starting at 2 pm at the little river institute at MSU-Northern. It will be at the student union building upstairs and any body’s invited it’s open to everyone in the surrounding communities and we’re super excited because it’s here to bring everybody together and everybody is invited.”
Chontay Standing rock the Recovery and Support Specialist at Rocky Boy Health Center and co-host of the event talks about what inspired the event.
“We’ve been planning this for quite a while, we were hoping to have it last year in November, then one way or another my grandfather he got called home so we more or less postponed in respect to that, so we were not in contact during that time. then like somehow someway we were having the same thoughts and feelings that it’d be good that we fulfilled that wish that we had that that we would fulfill the plan that we wanted to have around dance. I personally am very happy I’m humbled that this is even happening in Havre. “
