(Havre) – With the Montana Office of Public Instruction accepting $57.7 million on behalf of public schools New Media Broadcasters sat down with Elsie Arntzen Montana State Superintendent of the Office of Public Instruction to ask what a Debt Service Fund is.
“So, building maintenance and if we were to look at our school buildings across our state whether they are heated by a boiler or are heated by some really interesting technology currently. Wanting to make sure the investment in public schools is maintained and that is where the Debt Service Assistance program is so that the local taxpayer recognizes the benefit of the school within their community but also that it is a state public school that also has some skin in the game, to say it that way, that the debt service is also given from that state general fund.”
She went on to talk about working together to help public education.
“If we can have government which is a department that works with our natural resources and my agency that works with education. If we can all work together making sure that Montana can be the best place for Montanans whether you are young or whether you are any one of any age as well as wherever you live that Montana’s great beauty works for public education and that together it’s a beautiful great place to live. So, I’m honored that these dollars are supporting taxpayers and I’m very humbled that education in Montana is leading the nation in so many ways that education works all the way through as we journey across our beautiful state.”
