Every Havre high school winter sport has competed this season. New Media broadcasters caught up with Havre activities director Mark Irvin and he said it’s been a great start for the coaches who pilot the teams he oversees.
“It’s very reassuring,” Irvin said. “These are people who have been in their profession for quite a while, many of them as administrators as well.”
“They do a wonderful job with kids,” Irvin continued. “We had a really good weekend for our basketball teams, a good weekend last weekend with our wrestlers, and swimming finally got to get in the pool and compete with someone other than themselves in Billings.”
Irvin picked out the four winter coaches that Havre has competing in sports at this time of year and explained why they are as successful as they have been in the past.
“Obviously, (girls’ basketball) coach (Dustin) Kraske has had a lot of success,” Irvin said. “I’d also like to mention (wrestling) coach (Beau) LaSalle. He’s done an excellent job over the last several years. We’re off to another good start this year.”
“(Swimming) coach (Jill) Cammon(‘s) first year she takes over,” Irvin continued. “She’s been a coach for a lot years. (She is) wonderful with the kids (and) very knowledgeable. (I) love the job that she does.”
“(Boys’ basketball) coach (WaLynn) Burgess has been with us for a while now. They’re off to a great start,” Irvin said. “It should be a wonderful winter. We’re excited about it.”
