When the MSU-Northern Skylights basketball team takes= the court next, it will have been almost two weeks since their last game action. New Media Broadcasters talked with Skylights coach Chris Mouat and he what the team has been working on in anticipation of traveling for their next games.
“Some of the defensive things we messed up on, some of the blockout responsibilities that were blown and then a lot of shooting,” Mouat said. “I thought we shot the ball fairly well, but you can always shoot better, so we’re just trying to clean some things up.”
“Rebounding and defense and doing a better job of defending the three-point line,” Mouat said. “We didn’t do that very well against Valley City, but if we do those things well, we should be in a good spot for a chance to win.”
The Skylights will be in Phoenix for their only regular-season tournament of the year. With three games in four days, coach Mouat breaks down the first opponent, Embry-Riddle University. He said how playing against them will tie into the other two teams who the Skylights have coming up.
“Embry-Riddle has played Carroll to eight or ten points. I watched that game,” Mouat said. “They’re very competitive (and) very well-coached. They do some good things (and have) some good talent.”
“We’ll have to play well in all three games,” Mouat said. “Our margin for error is not that great. I think we have to focus on the simple things.”
MSU-Northern (4-4) will start the “Phoenix Frontier Challenge” by taking on Embry-Riddle (3-6) on Tuesday in Phoenix. Stay up to date on results for the Skylights on HiLineToday.com
