The Havre girls’ basketball team is currently (5-0) and have won their games by an average of 24.6 points. Still, there is always room for improvement.
From the start, Lady Blue Ponies coach Dustin Kraske has been preaching defense as the key to success. He told New Media Broadcasters after the team’s most recent win that it will come down to stretches of time when he feels like his squad can be ready to master that for 32 minutes a game.
“(We’re) getting really close to playing good defense for a long period of time,” Kraske said. “It’s all technique based. The ‘play-hard’ is there, so it’ll just be some subtle adjustments with feet (and) hips, how you’re going to slide through screens and then of course our communication.”
“I appreciate how hard our kids are playing right now,” Kraske said. “We’ll just take it from there.”
After wrapping up a calendar season where the program won its third straight state championship in Class ‘A’ and start the early season without a blemish on its record, Havre girls’ basketball will head into 2024 with three road tests: at Hardin, at Custer County, and at Dawson County.
