The MSU-Northern Lights open up the Frontier Conference season on the road at Montana Western on Saturday. New Media Broadcasters asked Lights coach Shawn Huse about the team’s updated injury report and he said that the squad is nowhere near where it is supposed to be going into conference play.
“We’re still a little ways off I think from being at 100 percent or close to it,” Huse said. “We’re still working and need other guys to step up.”
“We might get some guys back, but I suspect it would be hard for them to play heavy minutes,” Huse continued. “We need some more reps and practices and games under our belt before we can say that we are close to 100 percent.”
Because of what transpired on the court in December, coach Huse said his team is essentially starting a new season this weekend. He explained more in depth about the mentality.
“We’re almost starting over,” Huse said. “We’ve got a new look. New guys playing different roles. The focus is improvement maybe more so than usual at this time of year.”
“You’re really focused on (improvement) all year long, but especially in the preseason and then our team took on a new look thanks to some bad luck with injuries,” Huse continued. “Now, we’re having another preseason.”
The new-look Lights (8-5) will be on the court Saturday afternoon to take on Western (7-6) with a scheduled 4pm start from Dillon. Listen to a feed on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
