MSU-Northern Wrestling Going Through Adversity

People in the community are probably wondering why there were no MSU-N wrestling results over the weekend. New Media Broadcasters spoke to coach Tyson Thivierge last week and he explained what has been going on since the beginning of the Christmas break.

“Well we hate breaks,” Thivierge said. “We should be on our way to Iowa for the N-W-C-A National Duals, but (we) had a couple of hiccups.”

“(We had a t)ough tournament in Reno (two weeks ago),” Thivierge continued. “We have a couple of guys banged up. We have almost a month of no competitions, so we’re doing our best to get back to full strength and put a body in each weight class.”

“We’re just dealing with that right now,” Thivierge said. “Everybody is in good spirits.”

Between the losses on the team and the conditioning needed to participate in extended competition, coach Thivierge outlined the plan for the Lights wrestlers over the course of the next couple of weeks before the team competes again.

“(We’re) just spacing our practices,” Thivierge said. “We’ve hit a couple of days of two-a-days. We’ve gotten together as a team and are just making sure they keep that positive mindset.”

“They’re chomping at the bit right now, so that’s kind of the nice thing is that they’re hungry again,” Thivierge continued. “You can see it in their eyes (and) you can see it in their training. They’re getting hungry to get back out there on that mat.”

“We’ll have a little bit of different look this term with regards to different guys in different weight classes,” Thivierge said.

The Lights’ next scheduled appearance will be at the Missouri Valley Collegiate, which takes place in Marshall, MO on Jan. 19 and 20.
