(Montana) The U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced that 35 states plan to be the first to launch a new, permanent summer grocery benefits program for children in summer 2024, and Montana is one of them.
The program will be known as Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer, and the USDA estimates that, in total the program in will serve close to 21 million children, providing a total of nearly $2.5 billion in grocery benefits for the summer of 2024.
Through this new program, states will provide families with $120 per eligible child for the summer to buy food at grocery stores, farmers markets or other authorized retailers.
Montana looks to begin offering this program in the summer season of this year.
