The MSU-Northern Lights’ basketball team came home to Havre having suffered an overtime loss to Montana Western over the weekend. Coach Shawn Huse didn’t hold back when he recounted the scenario of leading for the majority of the game until Western hit a tying three-pointer to send the game to overtime, where the Lights eventually fell.
To me, that was a bad loss, period,” Huse said. “To have led early first half all the way until that shot, those are ones that you should close out.”
“We had our chances. We needed to capitalize on that opportunity and did not,” Huse continued. “That didn’t sit well with me. That didn’t sit well with the guys and we’ve been back at it this week going to work.”
Going to work involves playing at home against a Montana Tech team that has four starters who came back from a (29-5) campaign last season. Coach Huse said that the familiarity throughout the Frontier Conference will play a factor in them being competitive with a talented Orediggers side.
“We have our work cut out for us. We talk about it all the time,” Huse said. “Our returners know the (Frontier Conference) and know some of those guys. Everybody is really familiar with each other already.”
“That said, you don’t fully know somebody until you play against them, so I’m sure there will be some learning and processing as the game starts,” Huse continued.
