The MSU-Northern basketball teams went down to Great Falls on Saturday afternoon and lost both sets of games to Providence. The Skylights dropped a (74-69) contest, while the Lights lost a close one, (61-59)
For the Skylights (10-12, 4-5 in the Frontier), they played catchup for virtually the entire game. After trailing by eight points at halftime, Northern battled back, shooting 70 percent from the floor in the third quarter. A back-and-forth 4th quarter ensued, but Providence asserted their dominance beyond the arc as Ashlee Maldonado dominated with 27 points for the game. Senior forward Ryley Kehr put up 23 to pace the Skylights and redshirt junior forward Savannah Toms played an excellent second half, scoring 11 points in the final 20 minutes.
For the Lights (10-12, 2-7), they had a chance to win it at the end with sophomore guard Dae’Kwon Watson getting a clean look from three and missing from the right wing. He led Northern in scoring with 19 points, while Xavier Bailey had another good shooting night, scoring 12 points on 6-for-13 from the field. Davien Harris-Williams was outstanding for the Argos once again, putting in 24 points to lead all scorers, including 17 in the first half. Jaylin Reed also contributed 14 points for Providence.
The Skylights and Lights will be back at the Armory Gym for the first of two home games next week. They’ll take on Carroll College this coming Thursday and you can listen to the games on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
