HIPAA Breach at Rocky Boy Health Center Under Investigation

ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – The federal government is investigating a HIPAA breach at the Rocky Boy Health Center that occurred in February and may have affected up to 6,000 people.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, the breach of privacy that happened on February 21st was caused by a theft, but no details were immediately released. The Office lists the breach at the Rocky Boy Health Center was caused by “other”, indicating the theft did not occur via email, desktop computer, laptop, paper or the server.

A HIPAA breach means that patients’ protected health information was accessed illegally.
