The Havre softball team got two key conference wins to boost their credentials as the halfway point of the season came and went. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Tony Vigliotti, who said what the importance of seeding is when playing in-conference opponents and the motivating factors behind a long road trip.
“(It was a) long road trip to Sidney and we played well,” Vigliotti said. “I was happy. I was proud of them. It’s a long bus ride.”
“(It took) about five and a half hours to get there, so you get off the bus and get ready and you play two games,” Vigliotti continued. “We’re continuing to get better each and every time out.”
“Conference games are important for us and the girls know that,” Vigliotti said. “Just being locked in for conference games has been a pleasant surprise so far.”
Just like in Lewistown a couple of weeks ago, the Blue Ponies will face stiff competition heading into more tournament action when they journey to the Bette Paskey Memorial Invite. Coach Vigliotti shares a familiar name that Havre will take on as well as some fresh competition from the Class ‘A’ schools out west.
“It’s a good schedule for us again,” Vigliotti said. “We’ll play (defending Class ‘A’ Champions) Columbia Falls again on Friday and then we’ll also play Ronan on Friday.”
“Saturday, we’ll play Dillon and Hamilton,” Vigliotti continued. “A chance to just get on the field four more times and to improve on what we’re doing, learn, and get better.”
“The goal for us is to be playing our best softball here in three to four weeks when we head into Divisionals and hopefully that state tournament,” Vigliotti said.
The Havre softball team will be in Frenchtown this Friday and Saturday to play two games a day. New Media Broadcasters will have you covered with recaps following the conclusion of each day’s play.
