(Havre) Havre Police Department say they’ll be increasing patrols and enforcement of seat belt laws in an effort to keep all drivers safe.
In a press release, they remind drivers that Montana law requires all vehicle occupants to be properly restrained with a seat belt or in a child safety restraint, and a ticket can be issued if the driver or any passenger is found to not be wearing a seatbelt.
While ordinarily a seatbelt violation on it’s own can’t warrant a traffic stop, if a person who’s under 6 years old or under 60 lbs is believed to not be properly secured, police may require the driver to stop.
