The Havre Northstars snapped their two-game skid by winning the opening game of the second day at the GVO Memorial in Three Forks on Saturday.
After the frustration of Friday’s sweep, the Northstars took it to the Dillon Cubs in the first game of the day, routing them, (11-0). The game lasted five innings and Havre scored in all but one frame. Shortstop Ezra Pyle led the way with three hits, while second baseman Tyson Brandon, right fielder Terek Shipp, and first baseman Jevin Jenkins drove in a combined seven runs. Quinn Elliot dazzled on the mound, throwing five innings of 1-hit ball and striking out nine Cubs in the process.
The run would stop there as another game was played immediately after the conclusion of the first one. Havre dropped the second contest to a familiar foe, the Gallatin Valley Outlaws, (3-1). In the rematch of last week’s contest which Havre won at their Jamboree, this one was razor close as well with the Outlaws getting on the board first with two runs in the first inning. The Northstars got their lone run in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Connor Essert, which scored Logan Kinsella. Shipp was able to keep Gallatin Valley at bay for the remainder of the game with the exception of giving up an insurance run in the fourth inning. He threw a complete game with threes (hits, runs, earned) and fives (walks and strikeouts) across the board. Havre had the tying run at the plate, but was retired on a double play to end the game.
There will be one more contest on tap for the Havre Northstars in Three Forks and it will take place at 1:30pm on Sunday with the rival Lewistown Redbirds being the opponent. Stay up to date on all things in Havre Northstars baseball here on New Media Broadcasters.
