The Havre Northstars played one final game before seeding was determined at the 2024 Harold Gjerde Memorial Tournament. Their opponent was the Bitterroot Bucs, who pulled out an (8-7) win in a game that was delayed 2.5 hours due to the weather down in Lewistown.
Both teams got going early with a run apiece in the first inning. Bitterroot retook the lead in the top of the second inning and also tacked on another in the third. Havre struck back with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning to make it (3-2) and then the play of the game took place four batters later as center fielder Colter Solomon tripled in two runs to give Havre its first lead of the game, (4-3).
The lead wouldn’t last long as in the next half inning, the Bucs got two back on a Northstars error. Havre got another run back in the bottom of the fifth, crossing the plate in return for another Bitterroot error and it was (6-5). Havre again tied the game in the sixth inning on a Tyson Brandon RBI single that scored Ezra Pyle. The Bucs went back out in front on two singles in the top half of the seventh.
Solomon singled in Connor Essert with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to (8-7). The Northstars tried to get one last gasp as the tying run was on second and the winning run was on first, but a groundout ended the game.
As of the time of this airing, the tournament has not released which team Havre will play and what seed they are heading into the final day of the Harold Gjerde Memorial Tournament. Stay tuned to this story on HiLineToday.com for an update.
