A local Havre kid has qualified for the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals. Cayden Chapman, a seventh-grader from Havre Middle School and a member of the Hi-Line Rodeo team, finished second in the Montana Junior High School rodeo in the goat-tying competition, riding atop the horse Spiderman.
As a result of the second-place finish at the state rodeo, Chapman now has the chance to represent Montana at the 19th annual NJHFR, which starts on Jun. 23 and goes until Jun. 29. All events will be taking place in Des Moines, IA.
What is at stake for this goat-tying qualifer is the chance to be crowned NJHFR champion and compete for more than $80,000 in prizes. Chapman will also have the chance to win money that will provide for future opportunities in college scholarships, which will total more than $200,000 in the pot.
The National Junior High School Rodeo Finals is the world’s largest junior national rodeo and will feature the top 1,200 contestants. Their backgrounds range from 43 American states, five Canadian provinces, Mexico, and Australia.
