The Havre Northstars have gone (1-5) in their last six games, a stretch that is not in the DNA of anyone in the organization from the coaching staff down to the players. New Media Broadcasters had a candid conversation with senior leader Terek Shipp as well as head coach Patch Wirtzberger and their answers are mirrored in the singular problem that faces the club each game.
“It’s been a shaky start,” Shipp said. “I just think we need to combine all aspects of the game. One day, we’ll be good on the bats and then the next day we won’t be, but our pitching will be good.”
“It’s just a flip flop,” Shipp continued. “We just need to figure out how to execute as a whole.”
“It seems to be one thing every game that is just killing us,” Wirtzberger said. “Whether it’s pitching one game or it’s defense one game. Another game, we can’t hit the ball.”
“We’re looking for it to all come together and we’ve got two weeks to get that accomplished,” Wirtzberger continued.
Wirtzberger emphasized the sprint of the last two regular season doubleheaders and how instrumental putting the most recent results in the rearview will be.
“I think we’re hitting the ball really well, which is a good sign here heading into the last couple of weeks,” Wirtzberger said. “When we just talked to the boys after those two losses to Vauxhall, I think these guys will dive in here the next couple of weeks.”
“We’ll have some good practices,” Wirtzberger continued. “We’ve got a couple more doubleheaders next weekend and we’ll get better.”
Stay tuned later this week for what both Wirtzberger and Shipp had to say about the upcoming “Senior Day” taking place at American Legion Park between the Northstars and the Great Falls Chargers.
