St. Mary Siphon repairs officially underway.

(Babb) Ground officially broke near Babb Montana this week to begin efforts to replace the St. Mary Diversion Dam infrastructure.

Earlier this year, the St Mary Siphon failed, which left many irrigators across the Hi-Line without their usual source of irrigation water. This has put the onus directly on the Freso Dam Reservoir, which has been steadily draining to provide irrigators with enough water for their crops to survive.

As previously reported by New Media Broadcasters, worries are mounting about the health of the Milk River; a video shared on Facebook showing the river without any flow at all near Cottonwood Bridge.

Bureau of Land Management Officials met in Malta earlier this summer to update the public on a plan of attack for this project, with the estimated end date set for September of 2025.
