Montana included in USDA grant funding for meat processing.

(Keller Sherman) U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the USDA is awarding more than 35 million dollars to meat processors in 12 states, including Montana.

The funds are a part of the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program.

In Montana, Old Salt Meat Company, which is based in Helena, will receive funding through Phase 2 of the plan. This investment will establish a USDA-inspected slaughter facility in the company, scale up its fabrication space, and expand cold storage capacity.

The company is expected to be able to serve six new producers and create 29 full-time jobs.
