Lights basketball suffered double-digit losses to Southern and Eastern Oregon over the weekend in Helena during a non-conference tournament. Head coach Shawn Huse said despite the results on the court that it’s only going to make his team better knowing the level of competition will be that intense down the line.
“This is by far the hardest schedule we’ve ever played in this many games this early,” Huse said. “I am actually very encouraged because I know there’s a lot of good to take from the weekend.”
“That’s tough to see sometimes when you’re in the middle it and you take losses,” Huse continued. “These games are really good for us and definitely true depictions of what conference is going to look like.”
There will be a week off for the Lights, who don’t suit up again until Monday. Coach Huse said what the team has been working on in terms of bouncing back and he shared what the outlook is for his squad.
“I really do love these guys,” Huse said. “We get back to practice and it’s 100 percent locked in and ready to go.”
“(We) keep working at getting better and dedicated to improving,” Huse continued. “Of course, we want to start racking up some wins along the way as best we can.”
“We’ve just got to keep battling and keep learning and growing,” Huse said. “I do think this team has some serious potential.”
