Both MSU Northern Basketball teams came away with wins, hosting Saint Mary’s University on Saturday.
In the women’s matchup, the Skylights pushed to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, and extended to a 29-22 lead into the locker room. Northern held the Lightnings to just 11 points for the second half of action, to double up for a 66-33 final.
Taya Trottier took high point honors with 12, with Shyan Krass adding 10 in moving the Skylights to 5-3 for their season.
Northern takes the victory into the Phoenix Frontier Challenge in Arizona December 19-21.
For the men’s session, the Lights took an early lead in the first nine minutes, before making a 10 point run to give them some cushion. St. Mary’s clawed back to cut the lead at halftime 49-42. The Lightnings came out on fire, to drop the Northern lead to 1 early in the second half. The Lights battle back, using an 8-0 run to take double digit lead to roll to an 88-72 decision.
Jackson Reardon claimed 27 points to lead the Northern victory, Cinque Maxwell put up 14 points, and 12 points came from Raefe McEnroe.
The Lights are off to Chandler, Arizona for their next action, at the Cactus Classic December 16 and 17.
