MSU-Northern Skylights basketball has had time to decompress after going through finals week last week. New Media Broadcasters talked to head coach Chris Mouat and he said what his conditioning for the team will be like.
“Once they came back, it was pedal to the metal, really,” Mouat said. “We’ve got to get everything back in game mode, so we’ve just got to get into game mode as quickly as we can.”
Mouat also had the chance to give his thoughts on the win against St. Mary’s University of Calgary to push the Skylights’ record this season to (5-3).
“Every kid that went in played really hard,” Mouat said. “I’ll take the effort. I thought they all contributed on the defensive end.”
“I think everybody was on the same page,” Mouat continued. “I thought we did an outstanding job on the defensive rebounds. Two highlight areas for sure.”
MSU-Northern women’s basketball will play three games in three days down in Arizona this week. Coach Mouat shared his thoughts on the team’s three challengers, starting with a ranked Arizona Christian and advancing to common opponents over the years.
“We are playing three teams out there that are quality games,” Mouat said. “Arizona Christian is one of them. They’ll come out in the next poll top-15 in the country.”
“We’ve seen Embry-Riddle,” Mouat continued. “Benedictine Mesa, we’ve played off and on for the last few years.”
“We know what we’re up against,” Mouat said. “All (games) are going to be big challenges.”
The Skylights face Benedictine Mesa first on Thursday at 2pm. They will then take on a ranked Firestorm squad on Friday at 2pm. The rematch with Embry-Riddle will be on Saturday at noon.
