Lady Pony Basketball Bringing Win Streak To East-West Showdown

Havre girls’ basketball was able to pull out a (67-56) win over Malta on Tuesday night at home. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Tommy Brown how making changes offensively throughout the game shifted the momentum in favor of his team.

“Kudos to Ari (Gary), Amaya (Jarvis), and Tierra (Parker) to carry the offensive load for us,” Brown said. “A lot of those adjustments are on the fly and that just speaks to their talent as basketball players.”

“The other thing I want to mention is every other kid that stepped on the floor contributed to a lot of winning plays that don’t necessarily end up in the box score,” Brown continued.

Brown’s Lady Ponies will be in Southeastern Montana this weekend to participate in the East-West Showdown at Lockwood High, playing schools from the Western ‘A’. Brown said what the feel in practices has been like for the Lady Ponies and how they can carry this early momentum into the tournament.

“We’re building upon what we’ve put in,” Brown said. “We’re going to fine tune and just get better at executing things.”

“I’ve been proud of our effort, so I hope that keeps consistent (and) we just clean up a few things execution wise,” Brown continued.

“We go down there (and) it’ll be kind of fun to see a couple teams from the west that we don’t usually get to see every year,” Brown said.

The Havre girls’ will lead off a basketball doubleheader against Hamilton on Friday starting around 3pm, while Saturday’s game with Butte Central Catholic is scheduled to tip off around 4pm. Both games will be fed to KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com.
