On Thursday night, the Chinook basketball teams took the floor for the first time at home. The Beeter boys’ started first and were defeated by the Fort Benton Longhorns, (64-43), while the girls’ came away with a (56-37) victory over the Lady Longhorns.
For Chinook’s boys’ (1-3), they let up a (14-2) run to start the game and were down (17-5) after one quarter of play. The Longhorns caught fire in the second quarter, going on a (24-6) run to expand the edge and end the half. The Sugarbeeters showed more life in the second half, putting up 23 points in the fourth quarter alone, but it was too much of a deficit to overcome. Leading the way in scoring for Chinook was Jameson Nordboe, who finished with 23 second half points. Carson Nissen was the other Beeter in double figures with 10.
The Chinook girls’ (4-0) played a close contest to start, going back-and-forth in the first quarter and Alexus Seymour then going on her own run to end the frame with the Sugarbeeters leading, (19-15). The Lady Beeters went into the halftime locker room up (32-21). Seymour had 16 points after the first 16 minutes with balanced output of eight points per quarter. Defense reigned supreme again for Chinook, holding Fort Benton to just six total points in the third quarter. Seymour was only held to three 2nd half points, but was still the overall scorer at 19 points. Brooke Fetter dropped 15 points off the bench and Neva Lowe finished with 10.
