Northern Skylights basketball has been continuing to put up good efforts on the court despite not getting the results on the scoreboard. New Media Broadcasters reflected on the last defeat to Montana Tech with head coach Chris Mouat and he said the level of competition in the Frontier Conference is what has produced these recent skids.
“As far as having fight, I don’t think that’s ever been a question with this group,” Mouat said. “We’re putting ourselves in position every game to be in the game to win it.”
“Now we’ve got to get over that hump and get it done,” Mouat continued. “It’s easier said than done in (the Frontier Conference) with four out of our six teams ranked in the top-30 this week.”
“We don’t have any easy nights,” Mouat said.
MSU-N women’s basketball has been getting ready for its penultimate week of competition in the regular season, hosting Montana Western and playing on the road again at Rocky Mountain College. Mouat shared his thoughts on the challenge of sweeping the Lady Bulldogs.
“(My players) have already heard the message: beating a team three times in one year is really hard,” Mouat said.
“(The) second game at Western was about as crazy of a game as I’ve been in in a long time,” Mouat continued. “We know it’s going to be a tough test just looking at their stats.”
“They have almost six kids averaging double-figures,” Mouat said. “They don’t have one 20-point-a-game kid, but they’ve got six right around double, which makes them extremely dangerous.”
The Skylights (11-13, 2-9) will play at home against the Lady Bulldogs (7-16, 2-9) on Thursday at 5pm and will follow that up with a trip to Billings to face the Lady Bears on Saturday at 2pm. Both games will be heard on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com with Tony Vigliotti filling in for the calls on Thursday.
