The Chinook girls’ basketball team has been splitting lately to the same opponent, dropping a Friday night game to Fairfield last week before routing Cut Bank the very next day. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Mike Seymour about how his team handles business, especially in a result that hasn’t happened very often under his tutelage.
“I think they’ve responded really well,” Seymour said. “We had our shootaround on Saturday morning and they came in and they’d shaken it off already and were ready to go.”
“We’ve had a great week of practice so far and we’re excited for this weekend,” Seymour continued.
This will be an important last stretch of regular season for the Beeter girls’. Seymour got emotional when discussing his daughter Alexus, along with Hannah Schoen, Gracie Skoyen, and Addison Olson all being honored before the game on Friday night against Conrad for their senior night.
“I’m probably getting choked up now just as we even just begin to start talking about it,” Seymour said.
“Alexus, Hannah, Gracie, and Addison have been together for a long time and I’ve been around them for a long time,” Seymour continued. “It’ll be a very emotional night.”
“It’ll be a difficult time for me. I can tell you that,” Seymour said.
After a contest with Conrad, the Lady Beeters will head to play C-J-I in a rematch of one of the only three defeats of the season. Seymour said what it will take to knock off the Hi-Line Hawks at their place.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge,” Seymour said. “Hopefully it’s an opportunity for us to have another close game before we get into that district tournament.”
“Those close games are the games that really help you solidify your team and become a team moving into the district tournament next week,” Seymour continued.
Friday night’s Lady Beeter game will get going around 7:30pm with senior night festivities scheduled for around 7:10pm inside the Floyd-Bowen Gym. Chinook will hit the road for a game with Chester-Joplin-Inverness in Chester, scheduled for Saturday night around 6pm. Kyle Leeds will broadcast both games on KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com.
