Northern basketball ended the regular season hosting Carroll on Saturday afternoon for senior day. Like the last instances against the Saints, the Skylights and Lights dropped games.
For the Skylights (12-15, 3-12), they lost to the No. 19 team in the country, (62-50). Northern attempted just one free throw the entire 40 minutes and hit nine 3-point field goals as a team. Carroll took advantage of the turnovers as well, scoring 17 points off of 13 giveaways. The Skylights were led by Becky Melcher’s 11 points. She was joined in double-figures by Katelynn Forner and Canzas HisBadHorse, who each provided 10.
The Lights again held a halftime lead of (29-25), but were upended, (59-55). Northern led for the majority of the contest, but could not hang on as Isaiah Crane came on strong in the second half with 12 of his 16 points, including clutch jumpers and free throws down the stretch. Northern had a chance to get the lead back late, but Leo Sewell could not drain a corner 3-pointer. Northern continued to shoot poorly from beyond the arc, hitting four of 17 attempts. The Lights were led by Leon Sayers IV’s 24 points and Cinque Maxwell contributed 11.
It’s time for Frontier Conference tournament action as the Skylights will be the No. 5 seed playing No. 4 Montana Tech on Sun., Mar. 2 at 1pm. The Lights will be the No. 6 seed and get a rematch with No. 3 Carroll around 7pm that night. New Media Broadcasters will cover the contests from the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.
