(MRP) An update from the Milk River Project Official Facebook page says that water is flowing down the Milk River after a 100-degree shift in temperatures from last weeks sub-zero conditions.
Malta Irrigation District is able to capture that water using inflatable bladders at the Dodson Diversion Dam and redirect most it into the Nelson Reservoir.
Nelson is able to hold 75,000 acre-feet of water. For reference, one acre foot of water is almost 326 thousand gallons of water.
Drier conditions than average this winter created an uncertain outlook for irrigators along the Milk River, and what difference this influx of water will make remains to be seen.
