The 2025 Northern ‘C’ basketball tournament wrapped up from Great Falls on Saturday night with consolation and championship action from New Media Broadcasters listening area schools.
Chester-Joplin-Inverness’ girls beat Belt, in the girls’ consolation championship (70-45). Brynn Kammerzell dominated with 31 points to close out the tournament. Despite the victory, the Hi-Line Hawks were denied a spot in the State ‘C’ tournament due to Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine’s win in the title game over Roy-Winifred.
The CJI boys were out on court next in the boys’ consolation title game and survived Winnett-Grass Range, (49-45). Nate Nelson knocked down a clutch free throw to ice it, but it was the Ryland St. John show with 10 points in the third quarter to finish with a game-high 20 points.
In the championship game for the boys’, Box Elder continued to roll, beating Fort Benton, (80-42). Tracen Jilot dominated in another important contest, securing 31 points, while Tuarie Stiffarm-Rosette had 23 points and five 3-pointers. Kelton Vielleux was the leading scorer for the Longhorns with 12 and Truman Giese added 11.
As a result of the boys’ games, CJI now gets the chance to challenge Fort Benton for its state title spot because the two never crossed paths at the Northern ‘C’ this season. The game between the Hawks and Longhorns will take place on Monday night at 5pm from the Four Seasons Arena and New Media Broadcasters will be on hand to cover it on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
