The Havre girls’ basketball team opened up its state basketball campaign in Billings on Thursday morning, facing the No. 3 seed out of the west in Bigfork. The Blue Ponies came out on top, (47-39).
Havre got off to a good start offensively, scoring 18 points in the first quarter and leading by six. Another solid outing in the second made it (31-21) at the end of the half. The game picked up for both squads and each quarter essentially canceled out with a tie at eight and a two-point Blue Pony difference.
Amaya Jarvis rose to the occasion as she poured in a game-high 19 points. She was joined in double-figures by Tierra Parker with 11 and Ela Habor with 10.
Havre is onto the first girls’s semifinal of State ‘A’ basketball and will face the top seed from the west, Beaverhead County. The game between the Blue Ponies and Beavers will take place around 3:30pm on Friday and can be heard on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com.
