(FWP) Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks agency is reminding the public during the spring season to refrain from picking up baby animals they find in town, in their yards or in the wild.
FWP says this is almost always done out of concern for the animal, but typically causes more harm than good.
As an example, fawns are born with very little scent, excellent camouflage and an instinct to stay put. Humans can attract the interest of predators just by lingering around baby animals, revealing their hiding spots.
FWP says that animals care for their young differently than humans do, and typically situations work themselves out without the need for human intervention; remember, if you care, leave them there.
