Havre softball came away with another dominant performance over the weekend, defeating Miles City, (12-2). New Media Broadcasters talked it over with head coach Tony Vigliotti and he said that no matter the opponent, even this early in the season, any experience is going to pay dividends down the line for his club.
“Every time we hit the field and get to play somebody, our at-bats seem to get better,” Vigliotti said. “This game is about repetition, so the more live at-bats we get, the better we’re going to get.”
“Same defensively,” Vigliotti continued. “The more ground balls (and) fly balls that we see, the more situations that we’re in, we’re just going to continue to get better each and every week.”
Havre has a plethora of games in the circle this week. The team will host Dawson County on Thursday night with a chance to continue its undefeated mark. Vigliotti said what the stakes are in the matchup with the Red Devils.
“First of all, Thursday night’s the most important game of the week of us,” Vigliotti said. “It’s a conference game and those conference games are important.”
The Ponies will then head to Lewistown to face off with multiple opponents from around the region. Coach Vig highlighted the importance of getting his team in tournament mode because of what is ahead in the 2025 season.
“The Fergus tournament is always good because we’ll play teams from the Southeast ‘A’,” Vigliotti said. “We’ve got a good schedule there.”
“We’ll play Laurel, Billings Central, Lockwood, and Park (County),” Vigliotti continued. “It gives us an opportunity to play four games in two days.”
“(We can) get some kids in to maybe experience their first varsity contest,” Vigliotti said. “Wins would be great down there, but for us as a coaching staff, we’re looking at more experience (and) more reps for everybody.”
Havre softball’s five games in three days kicks off on Thursday with a 6pm varsity start at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field against Dawson County. The Fergus tournament takes place in Lewistown from Friday to Saturday.
