(Havre) As previously reported by New Media Broadcasters, five cases of Measles have been confirmed in Gallatin County as of last week.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Hill County Health Officer Kim Berg about what folks in our area can do to protect themselves from the Measles virus.
“We’ve been educating on the most important thing you can do is get your children vaccinated, if you’re not vaccinated get yourself vaccinated. The vaccine recommendations have not changed at this point, so typical vaccination schedule is a child gets it at 12 to 15 months of age and then a second shot at kindergarten entry between ages four and six.”
Berg says that vaccine recommendations can change with an evolving situation, saying it’s possible that booster shots are recommended if an area is seeing increases in Measles cases.
The Measles vaccine is 97% effective at stopping the Measles virus.
