(Great Falls) – Day 1 of the Ralph Halvorsen Northern “C” Boys and Girls Divisional track meet started Thursday at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls. The top six individuals and relay teams from this meet and any state mark pre-qualified individual or teams qualify for the state meet in Missoula next week.
For the boys The Fort Benton Longhorns 4 by 100-meter relay team finished second, and the Chester-Joplin-Inverness HI-Line Hawks relay team placed third. CJI’s Nate Nelson claimed 5th in the 100 meters and placed sixth in the 200 meters, his teammate Ryland St. John finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. The Boys long jump saw two district 9-C athletes qualify for the state meet as Truman Giese of Fort Benton and Box Elder’s Dreyden Anderson both qualified. Dane Grammar of CJI finished first in the Shot Put with a heave of 47 feet 1 inch. David Olson from Fort Benton qualified for state in both the Javelin and Shot Put with a pair of third place finishes.
Ali Doyle of the Turner Tornadoes placed first in the girls 100-meter event in a time of 12.95 seconds. Also qualifying for state are Fort Benton’s Ali Jacques, Etta Wicks, and Lilly Ferris. Wicks claimed the crown in the girls 200 meters, while Doyle placed second. Brie Matson of CJI, and Brooklyn Olson of the Longhorns are also 200-meter state qualifiers. Bridget Reed of Turner is the 400-meter champion in a time of 1:02.66. Two other 9-C girls are going to state in the 400 meters with Brooklyn Olson of Fort Benton placing 4th and Jayla Ramberg of CJI finishing 5th. North Star saw Piper Miller, Emerson Kinsella, and Kinzie Campbell advance to state in the 3200 meters, as did CJIS’s Tara Case. Bridget Reed of Turner took the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles, with teammate Doyle picking up third. In the girls 4 by 100-meter relay Fort Benton’s Longhorns were the champions in a time of 51.11 seconds. Also qualifying in the short relay were the Hawks from Chester Joplin Inverness High School placing 4th and the Big Sandy Pioneers finishing sixth. Three District 9-C athletes qualified for state in the ladies shot put. The Pioneers Brianna Terry placed 3rd, The North Star Knights Brooke Burkhartsmeyer placed 4th and Shareece Raining Bird from the Box Elder Lady Bears qualified with a 6th place finish. Quncy McCormick and Kinzie Campbell were fourth and fifth respectively in the javelin. Campbell, along with teammate Piper Miller and Fort Benton’s Mikell O’Hara qualified in the Pole Vault. Long Jump qualifiers from Thursday are Wicks of Fort Benton, Turner’s Doyle, Scarlette Sundgren from CJI.
