HELENA, Mont. — Montana health and environmental officials are warning the public to watch for harmful algal blooms, or HABs, on lakes and reservoirs this summer.
These blooms can release toxins harmful to people, pets, and livestock.
Signs include scum or discoloration resembling paint or pea soup.
If you suspect a bloom, avoid the water and report it at HAB.mt.gov.
The Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Public Health and Human Services encourage checking the site for updates and taking steps to reduce nutrient pollution that fuels HAB growth.
