UM Outdoor Program Helps Students Build Skills and Confidence Through Kayaking Course

MISSOULA, Mont. — At the University of Montana, students are diving into whitewater kayaking through the UM Outdoor Program.

The course teaches paddling and safety skills, starting in a pool and progressing to local rivers like the Clark Fork and Blackfoot.

Alumna Esther Lyon Delsordo now teaches the class after taking it herself, while other students say it builds confidence and community.

The program aims to make outdoor recreation accessible to all, with gear and guidance included.
