Montana Tops 6,000 New Business Registrations for Third Straight Month

HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen announced that more than 6,000 new businesses registered in May, marking the third consecutive month above that threshold.

According to the Montana Business Economic Report, over 30,000 new businesses have registered so far in 2025, putting the state on track to surpass last year’s record.

Jacobsen credited reduced registration fees and waived annual filing fees with making it easier to do business in Montana.

The Secretary of State’s Office offers 24/7 access to business filings through its online portal.
