Yellowstone County Commissioner John Ostlund Killed in Plane Crash Near Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. — Yellowstone County Commissioner John Ostlund died Thursday in a small plane crash south of Billings.

Authorities say the Cessna 172 went down near the 6100 block of Blue Creek Road.

Ostlund’s death was confirmed by fellow Commissioner Mark Morse.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it’s not yet clear if others were on board.

Ostlund, a Republican first elected in 2002, was serving his sixth term and previously led the Montana Association of Counties.

He is survived by his wife Kristie and their five adult children.
