Lewisttown, MT – After a devastating loss in nine innings against Vauxhall, Havre took on the Lethbridge Miners for a spot in the North District A championship game. The Northstars emerged victorious 4-1 setting up a rematch with Vauxhall in the championship. It was win or go home for Havre Sunday night in Lewistown.
After rain, hail and lightning forced a delay of the Havre Northstars North District A tournament semifinal matchup Saturday evening against Vauxhall, Havre Struggled holding a 4-2 lead suffering defeat 21-15. Havre trailed 15-6 entering the bottom of the seventh and rattled off nine runs to force extra innings.
The eighth inning ended quickly with no runs and Vauxhall put the nails in the coffin scoring six runs in the final inning to give Havre its first loss of the double elimination tournament. Ezra Pyle and Teegan Brandon recorded 3 hits each to lead Havre in the loss, while Tanner DeLarosa drove home five RBIs on two hits.
After the loss Havre took on Lethbridge for one last shot at a championship game appearance. Lethbridge put their only run on the board in third inning taking the lead before Havre crossed home plate four times in the fifth inning to secure the lead and victory.
Tommy Lewis was one of four Northstars to get a hit, recording two RBIs in the process. Tanner DaLerosa gave up five hits and one run but struck out five Miners. The win set up a rematch with Vauxhall early Sunday night in the North District Championship.
Facing elimination, the one seeded Northstars struggled early against Vauxhall falling down 7-0 after four innings of play before a lightening delay halted the game in the bottom of the fourth. The game was then canceled giving Vauxhall the North District championship.
