City Looking at Urban Renewal District

(Havre) – The City of Havre is in the process of possibly creating an urban renewal district. Mitch WerBell, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Montana, explains what law allows the city to start this process and the types of improvements an urban renewal plan makes.

“Under Montana Law and title 7, chapter 15 of the Montana annotated, a city council can adopt an urban renewal plan after a public hearing showing that the area meets the legal definition of blight, and then the plan basically guides future improvements like street repair, new sidewalks, redevelopment projects.”

The City of Havre held their first Urban Renewal Plan hearing at the October City Council meeting. Their second hearing on this plan will be held during the November City Council Meeting on Monday November 3rd, 7pm, at Havre City Hall.
