Havre, MT – MSU-Northern Lights freshman Tracen Jilot started the season slow but has since found his groove becoming a major contributor to the team.
Through 13 games Jilot is playing 24 minutes and scoring 12 points per game on 46% shooting from the field. Head coach of the Lights Shawn Huse spoke to why the freshman has improved so much.
“He has learned all the stuff that we have in offensively and defensively all the terms we have are just becoming second nature to him. He is just a guy that is coachable. He is a high basketball IQ guy. He is learning all the little pieces that go along with it to be able to apply it into these college games. He just continues to get better and better all the time and we’re just excited about it.”
Jilot put up a career high at Northern on Sunday against Lakeland University with 21 points. The Box Elder High School product is third on the team in overall points per game and is shooting 37.3% from behind the three-point line this season.
Jilot and the Lights are headed to North Dakota this weekend for a pair of games against Valley City State Friday and Mayville State on Saturday.
