(Havre) – The City of Havre has issued a health advisory for turbidity in the city water system.
A filter valve failure occurred at the Havre water treatment plant and filtered water turbidity exceeded the maximum allowable level. MT DEQ was notified and consulted on the valve failure and turbidity levels. Due to high levels of turbidity, there is an increased chance the
water may contain disease-causing organisms, and this health advisory is to notify you of these conditions.
Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.
The symptoms are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their healthcare providers about drinking this water.
The filter with the malfunctioning valve has been taken out of service. The filter will not be placed into service until the filter valve has been repaired and the filter has been properly evaluated
