Montana State University women’s basketball lost in the Big Sky Conference championship game against Idaho 60-57. As a result, the Bobcats earned an automatic birth to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).
The Bobcats were given a first round bye in the tournament and now know their second-round opponent to be the University of San Francisco Dons. Thursday San Francisco routed Utah Valley University in the first round of the WNIT 80-50.
MSU is 1-2 against San Francisco all-time and last met in December of 2000 which resulted in a 60-55 Bobcat win.
Montana State will host the second-round clash against the Dons Sunday March 22 at 2p.m. inside Worthington Arena. The Bobcats are looking to claim the programs first ever WNIT victory. MSU is 0-5 in the WNIT.
The Bobcats are led by Sophomore stud Taylee Chirrick who is the only Bobcat to ever be named Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the year in the same season. Chirrick has earned Conference DPOY in back-to-back seasons and is the tenth all time Bobcat to earn MVP.
Chirrick’s fellow sophomore, Addison Harris earned First Team All-conference honors at the forward position. In 25 and a half minutes per game Harris averaged 13.8 points for the Bobcats.
