Northstar Baseball Rides Momentum into State Tournament

Sunday the Havre Northstars claimed the class A North District Tournament title over Great Falls 19-9.

Havre head coach Ben Mader led the team to a district title in his first year at the helm and said the feelings were hard to describe.

“It felt nice. I don’t even really know how to put words to it’ it was just really good. We had a senior go down and young guys step in and handle business and it was good to see the team come together like that.”

Coach Mader called their showing at districts an all-around performance from the team as they outscored their four opponents 59-18 on route to the title and 13 straight wins.

“We finally had a weekend we didn’t take a pitch off. Any opportunity that we had to get an extra base they took. They made great plays; it was just a great all-around performance for all four games.”

The American Legion Class A State Tournament starts early Wednesday Morning with the Northstars hitting the field at 9:30a.m. against the Miles City Mavericks.

Coach Mader told New Media Sports that an early start time is of no concern of his.

“You know I think it’s going to be kind of nice not playing in 100-degree weather. I think the boys will really enjoy that; But it’s still baseball and they’re still just going to play their game.”
