The Montana Department of Transportation’s three-point-five million dollar First Street improvement project enters a new phase this week.
Now through Friday, crews are working during daylight hours to grind pavement recesses for new markings, refresh curb paint, and apply a fresh red decorative coating to crosswalks along the two-mile stretch of U.S. Highway Two.
Traffic on First Street is currently reduced to one lane in each direction. While business access remains open and wide loads are not restricted, speeds are dropped to between 25 and 35 miles per hour in active work zones.
MDT officials anticipate minimal delays but urge travelers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time this week.
