West Nile Virus Confirmed in Cascade County

(Great Falls) Health officials have confirmed Montana’s first human case of West Nile virus this year in Cascade County. The case is believed to have been acquired locally and follows the recent detection of West Nile-positive mosquitoes near Simms. It is the county’s first confirmed human case since 2018. Officials say the case appears isolated, but additional infections remain possible through the end of mosquito season. Residents are urged to protect themselves by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves, and eliminating standing water around their homes.
